Zack Thompson began working at Berea College in December 2015 in a part-time, temporary role within the Marketing and Communications office. At the time, he had no idea his part-time position would grow and flourish into a fulfilling, diverse career, working in nearly every aspect of a MarCom office.
During his time serving on the web team, Zack’s primary focus was outreach to the campus community, offering training on WordPress and web accessibility best practices, something he developed a true passion for in his nearly six years on the team. He also managed front-end content development for the College website’s high-level pages.
Zack’s jack-of-all-trades approach to marketing and communications work eventually led him to join the Multimedia team in 2021 as the Associate Director for Digital Multimedia Strategy. In this role, Zack oversees videography operations, trains aspiring student videographers, and creates people-centered work to support the strategic marketing needs of the marketing and communications office.
In 2022, Zack earned his PCM (Professional Certified Marketer) and CDMP (Certified Digital Marketing Professional) certifications from the American Marketing Association and the Digital Marketing Institute.
Zack also served as a co-chair for the College’s Staff Forum from 2021 to 2024. In this role, Zack focused on creating an open, honest, lighthearted, and productive staff body. Beginning his term during the tail end of the COVID-19 pandemic to the return to in-person work, he strove to bring elements of joy to campus where possible. Zack still proudly serves on the Staff Forum Advisory Committee.
When he doesn’t have a camera in his hands, Zack enjoys spending time with his partner, Nigel, and their pets, Pekoe and Dorian. He enjoys traveling, listening to EDM, and going to concerts. Zack is an amateur kickball and dodgeball player in the queer sports league, Hot Mess Sports. He also embraces his nerdiness as a gamer (mostly JRPGs, Animal Crossing, and Overwatch, to name a few) and an obscure Internet oral history lover.
