Biography

Dr. Nabila Rahman Biju joined Berea College as an Assistant Professor right after finishing her Ph.D. in Economics from University of Houston in August 2023. Her current research interest revolves in the realm of Macroeconomics with particular focus on household consumption and financial institutions. Previously, she has published in the area of public health and social network analysis.

Born and raised in Bangladesh, Dr. Nabila proudly wears the badge of “Made in Bangladesh” and takes pride in each of the multiple layers of her identity. She earned her Bachelors (2014) and Masters (2015) degree in Economics from University of Dhaka and worked for a reputed public health research institute James P. Grant School of Public Health for a year. In 2023, she earned her Ph.D in Economics from University of Houston and joined Berea College as a Professor of Economics right away.
At Berea College, she is teaches Principles of Macroeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, Money and Banking, Economic Growth and Development and acts as advisor for Economics senior research seminar students. She also co-mentors students for EconGames with Dr. Grzimek and also acting as a board member of Kentucky Economics Association.

She is very passionate about her discipline, Economics- the dismal science and also deeply cares about mentoring youths. Her motto for teaching is ‘no one is left behind’ and she goes out of her way to make everyone feel included and also teach the deeper understandings and inner-workings of Economics rather than just teaching the techniques and equations.
