The Pinnacle Experience
Your four-year college experience, where you are free to dream, driven to do, and empowered to reach new heights.
The Pinnacle Experience draws its name from Berea’s Pinnacle mountains. Like the Pinnacles, your college experience is a journey upward toward your peak potential, designed to help you discover where your talents, interests, and purpose meet. Along the way, you'll have the freedom to choose your own path, the support to keep exploring, and the confidence to dream big. It's not just what you go through—it's what you rise to.

Year 1: Your Beloved Community
Your Berea journey begins with belonging. In your first year, you’ll discover a community that sees you, supports you, and invites you to bring your whole self. Whether you're competing as a student-athlete, performing on stage as an actor, expressing your artistry as a musician, or cheering on your classmates at these events, you'll help build the school spirit that makes Berea feel like home.
How do we build community at Berea? Through your First-Year Summit, you'll explore Berea's mission while discovering your own place within it. Student Affairs offers more than 60 student clubs and organizations, giving you opportunities to build friendships, develop leadership skills, serve others, and pursue the interests that matter most to you. You can also find belonging in one of our many campus Centers, where you'll discover spaces that celebrate culture, identity, wellness, faith, service, and personal growth. Along the way, The NEST (Navigating, Engagement, Success, and Transition) connects you with the resources and support you need as you navigate your first year. Countless mentors will help you put down roots, find your voice, and begin your pursuit of everything you hope to become.
Year 2: Your Summer of Discovery
At Berea, summer invites you to explore new places, ideas, and possibilities by creating your own Summer of Discovery. Every Berea student can pursue a funded summer experience—whether that means studying abroad, studying away, conducting undergraduate research, or participating in an immersive Maymester course.
How can you create your own Summer of Discovery? With guidance from your faculty mentors, and by connecting to programs run by our Center for International Education, Undergraduate Research and Creative Projects Program, Center for Excellence in Learning through Service, and Entrepreneurship for the Public Good, you can create your own summer adventure. You'll broaden your perspective while discovering new interests, developing new skills, and gaining experiences that shape your future. This is your chance to step beyond your comfort zone and discover what inspires you!
Year 3: Your Funded Internship
By your third year, you’re ready to turn knowledge into action. Through a fully funded summer internship experience, you’ll connect your learning to meaningful work in a real-world context. Discover where your talents can take you!
How do we connect you to your internship? The Office of Internships and Career Development partners with you to find opportunities that align with your interests, goals, and sense of purpose. Along the way, you’ll gain professional experience, build relationships with mentors, and develop the confidence to lead. Whether your internship takes you across the country or close to home, this is where possibility becomes real-world practice.
Year 4: Your Future Beyond Berea
Your final year is about looking forward. Whether your next step is a career, graduate school, a fellowship, or service, Berea helps you prepare with confidence and purpose.
How can you achieve your dreams Beyond Berea? Career advisors, faculty mentors, and alumni networks work alongside you as you refine your goals, prepare for interviews, and strengthen your résumé. The Office of Internships and Career Development’s Beyond Berea Funding Opportunities provides interview clothing, graduate school test preparation, professional certifications, relocation funding, and more. As your experiences come together, so does your vision for what comes next. Your Berea journey becomes your future you are ready for your Beyond Berea.
Beyond Berea Funding Opportunities
We provide juniors and seniors with funds to buy professional clothing, and we even take them to a department store where a representative helps them make the best choices.
Berea College funds internship opportunities for every student to help them grow, learn and find their career paths.
Experiential Learning Labs: This is Your Classroom
At Berea, learning happens everywhere—and in spaces as unique as you are. Your classroom might be our forest trails, research archives, ceramics studio, greenhouses, television studio, or planetarium. These distinctive learning labs invite you to not just learn by doing, but to learn by being your best self—your best thinker, questioner, and creator.
Academics excellence connects you to faculty mentors. In your small classes, faculty know your name, challenge your thinking, and mentor you as both a student and a person. You'll engage with professors who are accomplished scholars, artists, researchers, and practitioners—educators who are invested in your growth. In each major, you’ll complete a capstone project, learning how to ask big questions and discover new ideas.
Academic excellence emphasizes human intelligence. Berea’s liberal arts education emphasizes critical and creative thinking—the deep thinking needed to solve today’s real-world problems. At Berea, we do not shy away from emphasizing that human intelligence must think “with” and think “above” artificial intelligence. We challenge you to develop new forms of intelligence that
will ensure your success.
Academic excellence prepares you for what comes next. At Berea, education isn't confined to four walls. It happens wherever curiosity leads and wherever questions are welcomed—with this preparation, you are ready to explore, create, collaborate, and grow in your graduate school and career positions. You'll graduate not only with knowledge, but as part of a lifelong community of thinkers prepared to make a difference.
Berea’s Work College Program: This is Your Path to Purpose
Path to Purpose is Berea's Work College Program, where meaningful work becomes part of your education and your future. Over four years, you’ll experience a wide variety of on-campus roles and weekly responsibilities. Mentorship, reflection, and professional development help you connect each role to your goals, your career, and the impact you want to make. You'll graduate with a depth of hands-on experience that prepares you to contribute with confidence from day one.
Work helps you discover your skills and talents. Through Path to Purpose, you'll explore your strengths, build valuable skills, contribute to your community, and discover new possibilities for your life and career. You'll gain more than professional experience—you'll learn how your talents can serve others, express your passions, and help you make your mark on the world.
Work prepares you for the future of work itself. When you reach the pinnacle of graduation, you will have mastered the competencies that employers across the country have told us they need and that employers of tomorrow will demand. These include communication, teamwork, leadership, ethics, and critical thinking—enduring, transferrable skills central to tomorrow’s workplace.
Work guarantees your Path to Purpose. Every role builds new skills, confidence, and clarity about your career pathway. Every challenge helps you develop the adaptability, curiosity, and resilience needed to thrive in a changing world of work. Every experience connects what you do each day with who you want to become—to your future career and your future you.
