Consultations
Our Writing Studio consultations serve all students, faculty, and staff, at all levels, in all disciplines, at any point in the writing process. This means that we see everything: research papers, lab reports, personal statements, short stories, annotated bibliographies. Our consultants are trained to listen, ask questions, and intervene in what are sometimes called "higher order concerns" (e.g., thesis, organization, transitions, central ideas) and "lower order concerns" (e.g., grammar, sentence structure, spelling). We also see plenty of blank pages!
Just like you, we are always learning, so don’t be surprised if our consultants ask questions about your assignment or double-check a citation handbook to make sure we're giving you the correct information. We want to help you develop and deepen your sense of yourself as a writer, which means we won’t tell you what to write. Instead, we will ask clarifying questions and point out patterns in your writing, so you can think through the writerly choices you're making.
