Justin Cox
Academic Success Coach
Biography
Justin Cox is an Academic Success Coach in the Office of Advising and Retention Strategy (OARS). They work directly with students through individualized academic coaching, developing study skills, recognizing their strengths and areas of growth, and working on strategies and plans to further their academic and personal goals. Students may connect with Justin whenever they are experiencing academic difficulties, navigating the challenges of college classes and life, or simply unsure about their next steps and need someone to talk with.
Justin works closely with campus partners to help build a support network for all the students they help through this process. They believe in the importance of communication with students. By taking the time to listen to the students, process their feelings and thoughts about their experiences, and offer individualized support, Justin believes they can help foster academic and personal growth. Their ultimate goal is to ensure that every student is given the time and effort they deserve to best help them through the college experience.
Before joining Berea, Justin spent 10 years teaching history at Pulaski County High School and Carter G. Woodson Academy. While teaching, they sponsored several clubs, including D&D Clubs, Magic the Gathering Club, Anime Club, and the GSA. After leaving the classroom, they spent 4 years working in Admissions at Berea College, helping students go through the application process. They have both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from the University of Kentucky.
