Berea College Community Strengthening Initiative (BCCSI)
A program meant to encourage Berea College staff to attend at least one on-campus event per month, if possible.
Simply speak with your direct supervisor if you would like to attend an event, preferably a few days ahead of time. There are no special requirements for taking advantage of this program.
BCCSI time may be used to participate in any on-campus events.
These could include any of the following, (but not limited to this list):
- Events or exhibits hosted by any campus Centers, Departments or Offices
- Mountain Day or All Peoples of the Earth Day activities
- Staff Development Workshops
- The Brushy Fork Leadership Summit
- Center/Department Reading Group Events
- Berea College Athletic Events
- Conferences hosted on-campus that present content pertaining to the Great Commitments and/or Mission
- Other various events (especially events hosted by Centers and/or Departments on-campus) that allow for thoughtful discussion and/or exploration of content.
The Berea College Campus Staff Initiative (BCCSI) enhances the campus environment by aligning with the College’s mission, Great Commitments, and workplace expectations. It fosters a more inclusive and connected community by:
- Promoting staff development through support of ongoing education and professional growth
- Increasing staff visibility, participation and equitable access to attend events and learning opportunities
- Encouraging collaboration and shared learning among students, staff, faculty, and community members
- Elevating the staff voice in campus conversations and culture
- Supporting student engagement through staff presence and encouragement
By doing so, BCCSI helps staff grow as “Bereans” and contributes meaningfully to the student experience and overall community well-being.
Staff or staff supervisors who have questions/concerns about this program are encouraged to contact Steve Lawson, Associate Vice President of Human Resources.
