Opportunities for Students

Are you passionate about sustainability and interested in getting involved on campus to help make a difference? There are a variety of ways students can take action and help advance sustainability at Berea College, including labor positions, clubs, task forces, and more!

The Tree Committee is a group of staff, faculty, and students who are invested in protecting the tree canopy on campus. The committee seeks to maintain and preserve the natural beauty that our campus is known for, while supporting the incorporation of the Great Commitments and the college's commitment to sustainability in its care. 

Help your residence hall be greener through this initiative from the Office of Sustainability.

All Berea College students are required to work at least 10 hours a week in various campus departments in the Labor Program. The College’s Workplace Expectations for all employees and labor students articulate Berea’s mission and values in the workplace, and they include an expectation to “encourage mindful and sustainable living” by “promoting a sustainable way of life through policies, procedures and practices in the workplace.”

The Office of Sustainability provides free, self-paced training to anyone on campus throughout the year. Become an official waste ambassador for your next event or rent training games such as sustainability trivia or the recycling sorting game for your department, class, residence hall, or RSO.

Berea College students can become involved as volunteers through CELTS. CELTS coordinates Berea’s student-led, community-service programs and supports service-learning in the academic curriculum. Themes of sustainability can be found throughout CELTS programs and volunteer opportunities
