Berea College

Nontraditional students are Berea College students that are 23 years of age or older, and/or married, and/or have children. These students have many resources including the <a href="https://www.berea.edu/non-traditional-student-program/nontraditional-student-center/">Non-Traditional Student Clubhouse</a> (NTSC), <a href="https://next.berea.edu/life-at-berea/housing-dining/ecovillage">Ecovillage</a>, the <a href="https://berea.campuslabs.com/engage/organization/ntsa/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Non-Traditional Student Association</a> (NTSA), and programs throughout the year focused on community building, personal and financial wellness, and more.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Kentucky Transitional Assistance Program (KTAP), Medicaid, Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), and Kentucky Children’s Health Insurance Program (KCHIP):
<ul style="font-weight: 400;">
<li>SNAP helps individuals and families stretch their food budget and buy healthy foods.</li>
<li>KTAP provides cash assistance to families with children to help pay for basic needs such as rent, utilities, transportation costs, car repairs, and other household expenses.</li>
<li>Medicaid helps cover costs for needed medical care including preventive health care.</li>
<li>Child Care Assistance aids eligible working families that meet income limits with the cost of childcare.</li>
<li>KCHIP provides free or low-cost health insurance for children younger than 19 without insurance.</li>

Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC):

<li>WIC assists women that are pregnant, recently had a baby, are breastfeeding, or have a child younger than 5 years old by providing the following services: Education and services, breastfeeding promotion and education, a monthly food prescription of nutritious foods, and access to maternal, prenatal and pediatric health-care services.</li>

HUD Section 8 and Public Housing:

<li>HUD provides rental assistance to individuals or families renting apartments from Section 8 approved facilities (e.g. <a href="https://next.berea.edu/life-at-berea/housing-dining/ecovillage">Ecovillage</a>).
<ul>
<li>To apply, fill out an application and take or email it to the Richmond office. If submitting an application before moving to Ecovillage or an apartment off-campus that is Section 8 approved, be sure to update your address when you move &#8211; they will contact you by mail only.

<li>NTSP can provide an application and scan it in for you.</li>

<li>Ecovillage Only: Prius*</li>
</ul>
*The College has provided the Ecovillage with a Toyota Prius that residents may use. A hybrid car, the Prius combines a gas engine and an emissions-free electric motor. It also has a low-emissions rating and does not have to be recharged. The Ecovillage is within walking distance of campus, so the Prius is available for off-campus needs such as grocery shopping. There is a mileage fee if only one person uses the car, but no fee is charged if two or more people ride in the car.
