Healthcare Options

Berea College Retiree Healthcare (Medical only)

Retirees under 65 who have worked at Berea College for at least 10 years are eligible for Berea College Retiree Healthcare, which also includes group life insurance. The cost is 100% of the current monthly benefits cost (including employer contribution). For an estimate, contact Emily Emberton in HR. If choosing this option, you will sign up via the COBRA paperwork that you receive.

COBRA (Medical, Dental, Vision)

The Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) allows you and your family to temporarily keep your group health insurance after employment ends. You will receive a COBRA packet within 2 weeks of your last day of employment. Confirm your address before leaving Berea to ensure you receive this. You have 60 days from your last day worked to elect coverage through COBRA. COBRA lasts for 18 months, except in cases of death or divorce, when it extends to 36 months. The cost for retirees is 102% of the total monthly benefits cost (including employer contribution). For an estimate, contact Emily Emberton in HR. If choosing this option, you will sign up via the COBRA paperwork that you receive. This includes signing up for dental and vision coverage.
