Biography

Tyler was raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and has a special connection to this region. He graduated from Berea College in 2013 with a degree in physics and immediately started graduate school at the University of Kentucky to pursue a PhD in Materials Science and Engineering. His work at the University of Kentucky was primarily on thin film research and high temperature vacuum electron devices. After graduating with his PhD in 2018, he began working in the glass manufacturing industry at Corning, Inc. based in Harrodsburg, KY. Since 2021, Tyler has been working at Berea College as a Staff Scientist where he regularly teaching PHY 130 (Introduction to Engineering), supervises the physics shop and shop technician, and collaborates with faculty to upkeep scientific instrumentation and design/build prototypes for education or research purposes.

In his personal life, Tyler enjoys fishing the Cumberland and Big South Fork rivers, playing guitar, and spending time with his wonderful daughter and wife.
