Bio

Dr. Lisa Turner joined the nursing department at Berea College as an assistant professor in August 2012. Dr. Turner obtained both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Virginia, and received her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing from the University of Kentucky. She is a board-certified Community/Public Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. Dr. Turner’s nursing experience is primarily in community and public health nursing, especially within the realm of school nursing.

    Dr. Turner’s research interests are in the areas of the care of vulnerable populations, access to healthcare, and obesity prevention.  Her dissertation research looked at how the work environment of long-haul truck drivers influences their risk for obesity. She is currently involved in research exploring the effects of community gardens on participants.
