David C. Simmons is an Instructor of Music at Berea College, where he teaches Applied Class Piano, Gospel Piano, and serves as Assistant Director of the Black Music Ensemble. A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Simmons holds an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Ashford University and is a Certified Counselor and Life Coach. He brings a diverse blend of academic, musical, and entrepreneurial experience to Berea, fostering excellence, leadership, and creativity among his students.

With Cello being his first love and a self-taught pianist and organist since the age of seven, Simmons has served as a musician, educator, and producer for over two decades. In addition to his academic work, Simmons has released two instrumental projects, A Prophet’s Piano and Journey: A Song for Seekers, which reflect his passion for creativity, improvisation, and spiritual depth in performance. His work has also been featured on numerous musical projects, and he has collaborated closely with renowned gospel and jazz artists worldwide. At Berea College, he works to cultivate artistic proficiency and cultural literacy in students, emphasizing the historical and spiritual significance of Black music traditions. His approach to teaching integrates technical skill, emotional depth, and community engagement, empowering students to connect their musical practice with purpose.

Alongside his academic and musical endeavors, Simmons serves as the Lead Pastor of Rivers Church in Lexington, Kentucky, where he continues to invest in spiritual, mental wellness, and community development. He is also the founder of Blueprint Studios, a creative agency specializing in photography, videography, and design. Simmons is committed to equipping the next generation of musicians, thinkers, and leaders through each of these platforms while advancing the rich traditions of sacred, gospel, and contemporary music.
