Bio

Shannon (she/her/hers) joined the Berea College faculty full-time in 2015 and teaches courses related to health education, public health, sexuality studies, wellness, mindfulness-based stress management, and survival swimming. Beyond teaching at Berea, she has experience teaching special, elementary, and community health education. She holds the following certifications: Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200), Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), KORU Mindfulness Instructor, and NASPA Certified Peer Educator Trainer. Shannon's research interests include sexuality education for parents, sexual health communication, and reproductive health disparities. From 2018 - 2023, she served the campus community by developing and managing a campus peer health education program focus primarily on providing students with sexual health education and resources. When she is not teaching, you can find Shannon practicing yoga, swimming, reading, quilting, traveling, and spending time with her children.
