Nobel Prize Comes “Home” to Berea

Berea College installed a Nobel Prize—won by alumnus John Fenn ’37, for his notable work in chemistry—in the new Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building. Science faculty, students, College officials and family members of the late Dr. Fenn gathered to hear remarks about his development of Electrospray Ionization and its impact on developing life-saving medicines.

New Science Building at Berea College Dedicated; Dr. Mae Jemison, Former NASA Astronaut, Spoke at Convocation

Berea College officials conducted a dedication ceremony of the Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building on Saturday, Oct. 20, 2018. The new 125,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility houses the College’s science disciplines, mathematics and nursing. Nearly 1,000 alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students raised more than $12 million to make the vision for this new facility a reality. Forest Stewardship Council Awards Full FSC Project Certification to Berea College

Berea College received Full Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Project certification for its latest construction project, the newly built Margaret A. Cargill (MAC) Natural Sciences and Health Project building. FSC certification verifies that FSC-labeled products come from a forest and supply chain managed in an environmentally, economically and socially responsible way. Currently there are a dozen FSC buildings or projects in the U.S. Five of them are on Berea College’s campus. Berea Exceeds $10 Million Campaign Goal for New Science/Health Building

Berea College is proud to announce that it has exceeded its $10 million campaign goal for the Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building, raising over $12 million in less than two years.  Nearly 1,000 alumni, friends, faculty, staff and students joined together to make the vision a reality. The Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health building will be a 125,000-square-foot facility that will house the College’s science disciplines, mathematics and nursing. As we get ready for the dedication on October 20, 2018, we want to share the stories of those who inspired us and whose gifts made the campaign possible. Berea Breaks Ground for New Science/Health Building

Berea College officials broke ground Thursday afternoon for a new building to house the natural sciences and nursing departments. The structure, to be named the Margaret A. Cargill Natural Sciences and Health Building, will house Division I, which includes the biology, chemistry, mathematics, nursing and physics departments. Berea’s science departments currently are housed in the Charles Martin Hall Science Building, which was built in 1927 and updated in 1984. It will be transformed for other uses.
