Lincoln Hall

Lincoln Hall, the College’s administrative building, is a designated National Historic Landmark as well as the first LEED-certified building in Kentucky with Silver Certification.

The building renovation originally began as a more rudimentary remodeling project when the interior of the building collapsed.  Berea College seized the opportunity for a more comprehensive renovation of the building using sustainable design and construction techniques and thus transformed the collapse into an open atrium that functions both as a stack ventilator and daylighting feature.

Lincoln Hall includes numerous green building features, including building materials with recycled and/or low-VOC content, reuse of 75% of the existing structure, and diversion of more than 50% of demolition/construction debris from the landfill.  Educational signage is placed throughout the building and serves as a self-guided tour of the building’s green features.
