President and Mrs. Roelofs invite all students to run or walk with them

Normal Schedule: Tuesday and Thursday mornings when school is in session. Meet at Seabury Circle at 6:50 a.m.; runners and walkers leave at 7:00 a.m. and will return by 7:40 a.m.
Route: We run/walk toward the Artisan Center and back along Walnut Meadow Drive. The total distance for the full round-trip is about 4 miles, but participants can turn around at any point. Water and pre-run snacks will be provided. Water is available at the one-mile mark on the course.
Signing Up: Participants should email Lyle Roelofs to join the club’s email list. After signing up, participants will receive a short- or long-sleeve t-shirt.
Clothing: Running shoes and clothing appropriate for the conditions are needed. Shoes can be provided to first-year Berea students. The shoes are yours to keep if you take part in at least 10 run/walks during the semester. We run/walk in ALL conditions — too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry.

- It is great to get outdoors on a regular basis and experience nature and the weather.
- Our forebears at Berea were incredibly fit and determined people. We will have to run/walk long distances to match their achievements.
- Almost anyone can get fit – it just takes time and dedication. Gradually increasing your distance and speed can produce amazing results, if you are patient and careful about it.
- Research has shown that running improves academic performance – even in calculus!
- Running also improves your persistence and determination.
- Although it is not particularly fair, our culture provides greater opportunity to fit individuals. Yet another reason it is worth investing the effort.
