Color

Since subtle differences in color can impact the way an identity is perceived, it is important that the Berea College logo appears in Berea Blue whenever possible. The official logo can also be printed in Black or in White when reversed-out of Berea Blue or Black (see examples below).

Color Processes

Reproduction (copying and/or printing) processes vary widely. Assuring consistent color across all applications requires using a different color formula based on the process.

The four commonly used color processes, known as “color indications,” are: process color, spot color, hex color and RGB color.

Process color is the mix of the four primary ink colors used in four-color (or full color) process. These colors, referred to by the acronym CMYK (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black), are used in combination to create a range of colors within the viewable spectrum.

Spot color is also referred to as a Pantone® color (sometimes referred to as PMS for Pantone Matching System®) and is achieved through the use of an ink that is custom-blended to look identical each time it is applied.

Hex color refers to a color in the web-safe palette. Regardless of the website, Hex-colors are web-specific colors that assure consistency regardless of computer or monitor used. RGB color is similar to Hex in terms of function but is represented with numeric values. The correct process, spot, hex color and RGB colors are found under each of the primary, secondary and accent colors.
