I wanted to give you a quick update on our progress toward completion of Berea’s new Production Studio. See the pictures below! We maintained steady momentum throughout the summer due to the diligence and teamwork of faculty and staff involved in this project.
We plan to open up the facility by early October and transition several media studies courses offered by Billy, Deborah, and possibly Gordon to the new facility at that time. We are a few weeks behind schedule due to some parts on back order and want to thank our Draper colleagues for their patience as we make these final preparations and restore our temporary studio in Draper 311 to a general-use classroom. It truly takes patience, understanding, and support across our campus to realize the broader hopes and dreams of our extended learning community. As media studies courses relocate to the new studio, students in that program will be actively engaged in the use of state-of-the-art HD video production technology and that will begin our next phase of this initiative as we begin to build a base of students with the expertise to support faculty and students across disciplines that want to leverage this resource for high-quality lecture capture, live streaming, educational and cocurricular content creation, digital story-telling and various other student assignments. We envision a new student labor pool emerging over time that can support a broader base of curricular needs in the creation and use of digital media in a blended teaching and learning environment.
Although this first phase involves studio construction, this is truly a process and a journey we are undertaking together with much more work ahead.
