Berea On-Demand is a new video streaming service that will go live in Fall 2011 in conjunction with the new Digital Film Production Studio. This system will allow us to stream live content or on-demand content developed in the studio to support teaching and learning as well as cocurricular activities.
The system will also provide access to five local television stations through our data network to computers on campus using a campus-owned digital antenna. I am writing to you so that you have an opportunity for an early peek at the system. Over the summer, we will be adding new features and content in preparation for a fall semester rollout. This will include new features that will allow us to stream video content to smaller mobile devices like iPhones.
If you want to explore the site, you can log in at http://vbrick.berea.edu/Login4.aspx using your network username and password. The Media Library does contain some Berea generated content associated with COM/THR 286 as well as episodes of the Head of the Holler. Over time, we hope to work with faculty interested in developing short lecture videos and assist cocurricular activities in developing video content to support labor, service learning, freshmen orientation and much more.
Along with the Apollon eJournal, this system will provide new opportunities to highlight undergraduate work at Berea and will provide a ready pool of video content that could be used by Public Relations to highlight our academic programs to the external community. We are also exploring a Berea news channel that will provide a live stream of content including upcoming events, Dining Service’s menu, and so forth that could be streamed to monitors in Dining Services or information kiosks on campus.
