I am pleased to report that our transition to Moodle courseware is on track and on schedule. Seventy-seven faculty/staff instructors are already using Moodle to manage 89 courses and 26 special groups. In addition, fifty-seven faculty have attended Moodle introductory sessions with the next session scheduled for Thursday, March 25th at 10 a.m. in the IT Instructional Classroom (room 230 in the Library). Contact Anthony Basham at extension 3630 if you would like to attend the next session.
As we draw closer to our Fall 2010 deadline, I wanted to send a note of appreciation to our faculty and students for their support and enthusiasm during this transition. Many students have asked us to consider the use of more open-source applications on campus and Moodle has gained traction in Higher Education as a premier, open-source learning management system. As work continues, we plan to provide additional assistance to faculty as they explore the more advanced (Web 2.0) features of Moodle.
As a final bonus, the $15,000 annual savings associated with this initiative will be used to create a new faculty development fund designed to support the broader use of technology in a blended teaching and learning environment at Berea. This fund will support the use of technology across the curriculum to actively engage students in the learning process.
