While growing up on a small family farm, Tevin began to dream of helping address local and international hunger issues. Building a more equitable, ethical, and sustainable food and agriculture system has been his long-term goal.
Tevin knew that a college education was a necessary component to fulfilling his dream. But finances were always a concern.
In high school Tevin worked 35 hours per week at a local restaurant to help make ends meet, all while maintaining a high GPA and participating in numerous service activities.
When he learned that Berea provided full-tuition scholarships for every student and that all students work in the College’s labor program to help offset expenses, he knew Berea was the place for him.
Now a sophomore at Berea, Tevin is grateful that the elimination of financial stress has enabled him to focus on “the thought provoking and inspirational course work” Berea provides.
Also, through his labor position in the Center for Excellence in Learning Through Service, Tevin has continued to serve others by leading outreach and tutorial programs for local middle school children.
In between studying to maintain his high GPA and working for CELTS, Tevin leads a community-wide “buy local” campaign and volunteers with People Who Care, a campus outreach program.
Ultimately, Tevin sees himself using advocacy and education to address hunger issues in hopes of making our world a better place.
