Types of Gifts

Berea Fund

The Berea Fund supports everything Berea is and does. Because Berea students pay no tuition, their education depends heavily on endowment income and Berea Fund gifts.

Unlike other colleges where tuition supplies most of the funding, Berea depends on endowment income for 75% of its yearly budget. Our strong endowment acts as a tuition replacement fund.

Another 16% of annual income comes from federal and state funding and miscellaneous income, while the final 9% of each year’s income comes from loyal alumni and friends through the Berea Fund.

You can provide quality education for promising students by making your Berea Fund gift today!

Endowment Gifts/Scholarships

A gift for endowment demonstrates your enduring commitment to Berea College. It is maintained in perpetuity and only the income—never the principal—is spent for the purposes specified by the donor. These support our greatness needs including tuition scholarships, campus programs, etc.

While other private colleges depend on increasingly higher tuition charges to fund their educational programs, Berea—by design—can have no such dependence.  Berea’s endowment now supports roughly 74% of our educational costs. One important avenue to provide scholarship support is through a named endowed scholarship that can be established with a gift of $25,000, payable over three years. An endowed scholarship can be established in your lifetime or through an estate gift. Funds from the scholarship would provide support toward tuition and other expenses for a Berea student or students in perpetuity.
