Your gifts to the Berea Fund support everything Berea is and does. They provide students with
- library books
- up-to-date educational technology, and
- most importantly, Tuition Promise Scholarships.
Through a strong endowment, federal and state assistance, and our active Berea Fund, Berea College provides an education that would be out of reach to the low-income students we recruit.
Think of Berea’s funding as a three-legged stool:
- federal/state grants and
- the Berea Fund.
If we lose strength in any of those legs, our mission falters as does the impact we have on students’ lives.
High Cost of Many Colleges
The high cost of many colleges has made it nearly impossible for low-income students to obtain a higher education.
The average family income of Berea student families is less than $30,000 annually.
Statistics show that such students have a less than 10 percent chance of graduating from college by the age of 24.
Fortunately, Berea College continues to stand in the gap, serving low-income students from Appalachia, the nation, and the world by providing each with a full-tuition scholarship.
We can only continue to do so with the support of friends, alumni, faculty, staff, students, and parents who realize the importance of “investing in lives of great promise.”
