Inaugural Great Commitments Society Event during Summer Reunion Brings Bereans Together for Community and Stewardship

More than sixty legacy donors joined us for the first-ever Cocktail-Mocktail Mingle, a Summer Social exclusively for Great Commitments Society members during Summer Reunion in June 2022.  Not only was this an inaugural event for legacy donors, but it was also the first time in three years the College was able to invite alumni and guests to campus to enjoy Summer Reunion festivities.

“It was so wonderful inviting our Berea family back to campus,” said Amy Harmon, Executive Director of Planned Philanthropy.  “We so appreciate our Great Commitments Society members, and we all really enjoyed this opportunity to be together in community while celebrating their commitment to Berea’s mission.”

Abigail Sell ’22Recent graduate Abigail Sell ’22 provided musical entertainment on the keyboard throughout the event. Keeping with the Kentucky theme of the Cocktail-Mocktail Mingle, she played musical selections by Kentucky artists.  The most significant selection of the night was the playing of Berea Beloved at the end of the event.  This was met with great appreciation with some alumni joining in by singing.   Abigail, a new Berea alumna, received two degrees in May in Music and Spanish.  She is currently working at the College in a BereaCorps position.  BereaCorps is a unique, grant-funded program that provides recent Berea graduates with the opportunity to work in staff positions for one or two years at the College to gain professional experience and also to have time for career or graduate school discernment.

The Cocktail-Mocktail Mingle will become an annual event during Summer Reunion.  A similar event will take place during Homecoming.

The Office of Planned Philanthropy will host a Great Commitments Society weekend in April 2023.  A survey will be emailed to Great Commitments Society members in August to gather input regarding topics and events that would be most appealing.  Great Commitments Society members can provide their email address at for inclusion in this survey.
