Berea College Farm Store Provides Outlet for Local Foods

After much anticipation, the Berea College Farm Store opened to the public on Saturday, November 23, at 9 a.m. Located at 311 North Main Street just below Seabury Athletic Complex, the store will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 2-7 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Featuring products from local farms and others within the Appalachian regions, the Farm Store offers a wide variety of fresh vegetables, fruits, herbs, grains, beans, mushrooms, honey, pork, beef, chicken and more – all produced by students gaining hands-on farming experience  while working their way through college. “The main purpose of the store is to serve as the college farm’s experiential learning laboratory in value-added agriculture and local food systems,” said Office and Farm Marketing Manager Jessa Turner.

Supporting the function of the Farm Store are faculty members of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Program at Berea College, including Farm Manager Bob Harned, Assistant Farm Manager Jamie Rowse, Horticulture Manager Janet Meyer, and Organic Farming Coordinator Matt Wilson.  The Berea College Farm Store is managed by Bethany Pratt.

The Berea Farmer’s Market will continue to operate through the winter in the Goldthwait Agriculture Building on Tuesdays from 3-6 p.m.
