Writing Resources

About Writing Resources

Writing Resources serves as Berea College’s writing center. It assists students, faculty, and staff with all types of writing at any stage of the writing process. Consultants can assist in understanding assignments, brainstorming, organization, flow, language mechanics, formatting, and formal citation. From personal writing to lab reports, trained student writing consultants can help you grow in your personal writing process. Our peer consultants work at the Center for Teaching and Learning as part of the student labor program and undergo ongoing training throughout their time with Writing Resources. Writing Resources and TLAP Programs are located on the Ground Floor of Hutchins Library (Offices 110, 111, 112 and 130).

What to Expect, How to Prepare

Live (in-person or video) consultations are 50 minutes long and begin at the top of the hour. Students can make up to three appointments per week. Your consultant will greet you, ask about the assignment, and set goals with you for the session. If possible, bring your assignment sheet. Our consultants will not “just edit” the paper for you. Instead, they will ask questions, listen, and speak with you about why you made the choices you did to help you improve as a writer, so you will need to be physically and mentally present for these consultations. Our Paper Upload consultations are 50 minutes long, but you will not need to be present; instead, the consultant will provide written comments that they will upload back to your appointment form after the session time is over.
