Daily COVID-19 Update: August 3, 2020

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Monday, August 3.

Kentucky and Madison County Update

Kentucky reported 1034 new cases over the weekend and 323 more today and a total of 9 new deaths over the last three days.  The numbers remain too high, but seem to have plateaued after the rather discouraging increase throughout much of July.  Our positivity rate has declined a bit to 5.18%, another good sign.  Madison County reported 12 new cases today for a total to date of 547.  Two are currently hospitalized, 284 have recovered, and 260 are recovering at home.  We have had just the one fatality, and it struck me today that locally that is a very favorable fatality rate of just 0.2%, much better than the statewide average of about 2.4% and the national rate which is above 3%.

Daily COVID-19 Update: July 29, 2020

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Wednesday, July 29.

Kentucky and Madison County Update

Gov. Beshear reported 532 new cases yesterday and 619 today; our positivity rate continues to creep up and is now at 5.81% (see below for your chance to test negative next week and help lower KY’s rate); and 10 new deaths for yesterday and 5 for today.  The numbers remain too high, but seem to have stabilized over the last several days, perhaps due to various measures put in place by the Governor  Madison County reported 20 new cases yesterday and 17 today for a total to date of 464.  Two are currently hospitalized, and 234 have recovered. (That latter number gets updated very infrequently, and I suspect it is an undercount.)

Daily COVID-19 Update: July 27, 2020

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Monday, July 27.

Kentucky and Madison County Update

Gov. Beshear announced 522 new cases today and 9 deaths.  There were also large numbers of cases over the weekend, so that our 7-day average is close to 600 new cases/day and our testing positivity rate is about 5.6%.  He also noted that hospitalizations of younger patients are increasing.  On the basis of those concerning numbers and hoping to forestall major outbreaks as have been seen in other states, he announced new restrictions today, closing bars and limiting restaurants to 25% capacity.  He also delayed opening of all school systems (we are told this does not include higher ed) to the 3rd week in August.    Madison County reported 14 new cases today for a total of 426 to date.  Two persons are currently hospitalized, 234 persons have recovered.

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Thursday and Friday.

Kentucky and Madison County Update

Kentucky and Madison County have had a tough couple of days.  Gov. Beshear notes that we are behaving differently than we were two weeks ago, so perhaps these numbers will come down, but if not, he is prepared to take further steps.  Kentucky reported 607 new cases on Thursday and 7 deaths and 797 new cases for Friday and again 7 deaths.   Madison County reported 15 new cases and 9 today for a total of 383 to date.  Four persons are currently hospitalized, 232 persons have recovered, and still just the one death.
