Daily COVID-19 Update: October 23, 2020

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Friday, October 23, 2020.

Another weekend is here, so I have to issue my usual reminder about how dangerous it is to go to parties, not only to the partier but also to everyone else who wants to continue to have the campus open!  The Fall Festival coming for tomorrow looks like a lot of safe fun, though!  Many thanks to the hard-working staff of Student Life for putting this on.

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

10 weeks

Today marks the completion of 10 of the 15 weeks planned for the Fall 2020 semester.  I just want to congratulate everyone who has been part of our success to date.  It has not been easy for anyone, and it has been really hard for some, but I am just amazed at all that so many Bereans have done, faculty, staff and students, so that we have been able to continue with our important activities of teaching and learning, labor and service, whether remote or in person.

Mrs. Roelofs and I are looking forward to getting on the Town Hall Zoom call at 7:30 this evening.  Students have been doing a great job coping with a very tough situation so far, and you deserve to feel very good about how you have risen to the greatest challenge Berea students have faced in generations!

Daily COVID-19 Update: October 16, 2020

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Friday, October 16, 2020.

Quarantine and testing update

We have had one student added as a precautionary quarantine, so there are now five students in James Hall, three as close-contact quarantines from before and two as precautionary, in addition to the two student close-contact quarantines in the Ecovillage.  Scheduled testing of employees and students is continuing.

One of our facilities employees who was a close-contact quarantine has tested positive, so our totals exclusive of the CDL situation are: 5 on-campus employees in isolation and 3 in close-contact quarantine.  (The new isolation case had not been on campus for the last week.)

Daily COVID-19 Update: October 14, 2020

Dear Bereans,

This is the update for Wednesday, October 14, 2020.

I need to apologize for accidentally hitting a premature “send” this morning.  Most folks got an extra, obviously unfinished email message from me.

From that premature send you already know that the AC is quite concerned about employees traveling during the upcoming Fall Break in the local schools.  Our earlier guidance suggests the importance of quarantining for anyone who travels to areas where the virus is prevalent.  We have about 600 active cases in a population of about 90,000 in Madison County, and there are a lot of places that have much heavier incidence than that.  The AC may adopt, but has not yet had a chance to consider this, the updated guidance for how to protect others after you have traveled…
