This is the update for Sunday, May 3, 2020.
Today would have been the day. Rehearsals would have been completed; families and friends would have gathered; parking would have been a mess; we’d all be watching the weather carefully and fretting that thunderstorms are possible beginning at 1:00 pm; I would have told my favorite graduation dad joke to the seniors—what did the thermometer say to the graduated cylinder? (see below for answer); the faculty would be getting out their regalia and hoping the wrinkles would hang out; seniors would be decorating their mortarboards and worrying about what could go wrong as they walk across the stage; labor supervisors would be getting ready to attend, knowing how much they will miss their favorite students; etc. I am writing this at 11:00 am, and by now nurses would have been pinned; we would have enjoyed a wonderful baccalaureate service, and we would be anticipating the start of the ceremony in just a couple of hours. Class of 2020, you of the clear vision, we are thinking of you today, feeling proud of you, and feeling disappointed with you for the memorable celebration you are missing.
But, Class of 2020, we have a surprise for you! Keep an eye on our social media platforms today. #BereaProud #BereaGrad
Graduates, we celebrate you today!
