Application Process

Application Process

Standard Application

The Appalachian Fund’s Advisory Council reviews standard requests once a year. All funding requests for the 2025 grant period must be received by 11:59 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2024. Applications received after this deadline will not be accepted.

The process is as follows:

  • If you have not received funding from the Berea College Appalachian Fund previously, please complete and submit the Grant Inquiry Form online prior to submitting an application. Davey King will follow up with you on your proposed project.
  • Complete the Grant Application Webform along with the Budget (Standard Grant Application Budget Template) by 11:59 p.m., Monday, October 14, 2024.
  • A small number of two-year grants may be approved for 2025. The grant period runs from January 1 through December 31.
  • Current grantees: Submit your report (see Report Requirements) on your current grant by the same deadline. Your report must be submitted on time for your application to be considered.
  • The Advisory Council will meet in December to review grant requests.
  • You will be notified by January of the decision on your request.
  • Awarded funds will be paid  after grant agreements have been signed, typically in January. Larger grants are issued in two payments: one in January and one in July.
  • The grant application will open in late summer/early fall.

Folk Arts and Cultures Initiative

The process is as follows:

  • If you have not received funding from the Berea College Appalachian Fund previously, please fill out and submit the Grant Inquiry Form online prior to submitting an application. Davey King will follow up with you on your proposed project.
  • Complete the Grant Application Webform along with the Budget (FAC Grant Application Budget Template) by 11:59pm, Thursday, April 25, 2024.
  • Grants awarded in this round will be for one year only with the grant period running from July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.
  • Current grantees: Submit your report (see Report Requirements) on your current grant by the same deadline. Your report must be submitted on time for your application to be considered.
  • The Advisory Council will meet in June to review grant requests.
  • You will be notified in June of the decision on your request.
  • Awarded funds will be paid  after grant agreements have been signed, typically in July.
  • The grant application will open in late winter/early spring.
