Opened in August 2013, the new Deep Green Residence Hall at Berea College highlights a wide array of sustainable design elements as a living/learning laboratory for students. With housing for 123 residents, the building covers three floors and two wings across 42,000 square feet of space for living, study and common areas.
The project is on target to achieve LEED Platinum certification and Petal Recognition under the Living Building Challenge. With broad input from Berea students, staff, faculty and alumni, this new building reflects the “next step” in deep green design as a practical, affordable approach to student housing.
From its rooftop solar panels, recycled brick cladding and geothermal systems to the healthy, daylit interiors featuring student-built furniture and fine arts, the Deep Green Residence Hall celebrates sustainable learning and simple living for a new generation.
