The goats at Berea are primarily Spanish- and Kiko-cross does and a Kiko buck utilized for weed control in the pastures. The goats are a small-ruminant addition to the educational experience of our students. The flock consists of about 30 does with kidding in the spring of each year. This yields around 45 kids which are weaned at 90 days of age and then grazed separately from the does. The kids are ready for sale in December of each year. We are currently exploring ways of adding value to the kids by processing the meat and selling it at the local farmers market as cuts or as part of a ready-to-eat meal.
