In October 2018, we welcomed back our beloved Bereans from Foundation, Academy and Knapp Hall for their biennial reunion. However, the Foundation Reunion Committee, in collaboration with Alumni Relations, voted in November to begin holding this reunion annually. Save-the-Date for Foundation Reunion 2019, scheduled Oct. 4-6.
In 2006, Foundation alumni celebrated their first reunion on Berea’s campus and in 2008, Academy and Knapp Hall alumni joined them. Since then, alumni from all three schools return to campus every two year to get together, reminisce and celebrate their time at Berea College.
Academy was founded in 1892 to educate grades 9-12 and eventually became Foundation School. Knapp Hall was created to provide training for teachers where they taught Berea’s elementary school students. In 1968, Foundation was closed and merged with the town’s independent school. Last year marked the 50th anniversary of the closing of Foundation. Today, the Knapp Hall building continues to house the Education Studies program for Berea College students.
