About the Department

The Department of Technology and Industrial Arts offers two Bachelor of Science degree programs: Industrial Technology Management and Technology Education. The objective of these programs is to provide students with a broad professional and liberal arts education necessary for entrance into careers or into professional or graduate schools. Course work is provided in the areas of engineering graphics, manufacturing technology, electricity/electronics, power technology, graphic communication, photography, Appalachian Crafts, quality control, computer integrated manufacturing, robotics and CAD/CAM/CNC. Throughout the program emphasis is placed on aspects of creativity, quality, originality, and inventiveness in solving problems of design and production.

The Industrial Technology Management degree prepares the student for a variety of management related positions in a wide range of career fields. This program is designed to give the student a strong background in production, communications, and power and power/energy technologies combined with a study of management strategies and procedures. Students completing this program may pursue careers which include Production Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality Control, Architecture, Graphic Design, Sustainable Development and a wide range of related positions.

The Technology Education degree leads to certification for teaching grades 5-12. This program is designed to give the student a broad background in production, communications and power/energy, combined with studies in both historical and contemporary trends in the educational profession. Students completing this program may pursue careers in education: public, private, industrial training or administration.
