Environmental Health & Safety
The Berea College Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department is responsible for assuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations involving the environmental and occupational health and safety of employees, students, and visitors of the College.
The Department’s various responsibilities include compliance with the institution’s Comprehensive Safety Plan, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and policies. It conducts investigations of safety and health issues for the entire campus, and the EHS Director serves as the Chemical Hygiene officer for the College’s laboratories. In this role, the Department is responsible for managing chemicals, hazardous materials, bio-hazardous waste, and environmental monitoring.
