Other schools are able to function because their students pay tuition, but Berea College must function despite receiving no tuition income from students. Because you pay no tuition, your education depends heavily on endowment income and Berea Fund gifts.
This year, our endowment will pay 73% of those tuition costs. Berea Fund gifts help cover the remainder. Gifts of all sizes are critical in raising the funds needed for the Berea Fund this year. These gifts, which must total $4.15 million in 2013-14, are directed through the Berea Fund to help pay for tuition. Tuition covers everything from faculty salaries and classroom technology to Petri dishes for the biology laboratory and period costumes for the theatre program.
