Fall 2012 Events:

 Saturday September 15: Morning Pointe Residential Senior Care Community, Richmond, KY: Resident Appreciation Week.  Six craft media were demonstrated: Weaving on the loom, Spinning, Weaving stool seats, Wood lathe, Potter’s wheel, and Broom craft. Seven students participated. (Intergeneration Event)
Friday September 28:  Walk with the Arts, Indian Fort Theater, Berea, KY. Madison County Fourth Grade (over 700 children). Event sponsored by Berea Arts Council.  Seven crafts demonstrated: Weaving on the loom, Spinning, Weaving stool seats, Wood lathe, Potter’s wheel, Hands-on pinch pot interaction, and Broom craft. Twelve students participated. (Community and school event).
October 13: Black Mountain Home for Children, Youth and Families – Fall Festival, Black Mountain, NC. Six craft media were demonstrated: Weaving on the loom, Spinning, Weaving stool seats, Wood lathe, Potter’s wheel, and Broom craft. Eight students participated. (Community and Organization Event).
October 10-11American Craft Week: Crafts on the Square Gallery on Main Campus.  Demonstrations of different crafts over two days on main campus. (Berea College Community)
November 10BereaFest, Berea College Homecoming.  Berea College Alumni.  During Homecoming 2012, the Craft Education and Outreach demonstrated carving a bowl on the wood lathe and making pottery on the potter’s wheel.  Many alumni visited our demonstration to recount stories of their labor positions in Craft Industries.  (Berea College Community)
November 10 -Student Crafts on the Square Gallery Homecoming Reception. Over 97 alumni and family visited SCOTS Gallery for our Open House Reception.  Alumni viewed all crafts demonstrations and had a small snack before heading to dinner.  (Berea College Community)
November 16 and 17  Big Ugly Community Center, Big Ugly, WV. See attached essay
Traveling deep in the hills of West Virginia, the Education and Outreach team worked two days with the Big Ugly Community Center (near the Big Ugly Creek).  On the first day, we worked with the afterschool program teaching Broom Craft and making ceramic whistles to 25 third graders to middle school.  The next day we joined the center for a community thanksgiving dinner where we demonstrated after enjoying a tasty meal.
