MTR Tour to eastern Kentucky
Sponsored by SENS, ESE, and the Appalachian Center.

This particular trip will allow us to meet and hear local citizens who have been affected by Mountain Top Removal. Broad issues to be discussed are as follows: water quality issues, flyrock dangers, property line disputes, air quality issues, road quality issues and citizens’ rights.

This tour also involves a strenuous hike to see a working MTR site. Dress appropriately. This trip is contingent upon safe weather conditions. Please RSVP by April 10 via email at hornt@berea.edu or 985.3724.

The Campus Community Partnerships for Sustainability conference was initiated in 2006 to foster partnerships between Kentucky colleges and universities and their local communities to work together towards a sustainable future. The central idea behind the conference is that institutions of higher learning should be models of responsible environmental stewardship, and should use their human and technical capacity as well as their institutional operations to improve the quality of life in the communities where they are located and which they serve. Registration before April 5th is reduced!

Community organizer and 2005 recipient of the Compton Mentor Fellowship, Berea College graduate Tricia Feeney spent her fellowship year based in Boone, N.C., strengthening grassroots efforts for local change and developing a Citizen’s Guide for Water Security in Appalachian Mining Communities. This Service Convocation is co-sponsored with the Campus Christian Center and the Center for Excellence in Learning through Service (CELTS).
