Academic Building Access Policy

Public Safety should be notified immediately at ext. 3333 if you become aware of any threat to persons or property. Crime prevention in College buildings and grounds is a shared community responsibility and all efforts in this regard are coordinated and facilitated through Public Safety. Facilities Management assists in the safety effort by correcting security or safety hazards in buildings or grounds that come to light through observation and report.

Non residential buildings are cleared and locked at regularly scheduled times by a building occupant or a Public Safety Officer. Supervised access to buildings after hours will be provided by the Public Safety Office pending receipt of proper identification and authorization. Academic buildings are cleared and closed after 11:00 p.m. Woods-Penniman remains open 24 hours a day. Facilities Management maintains the key and lock system for non residential campus buildings and issues building and room keys to authorized personnel.

The Campus Safety Committee

The Campus Safety Committee includes professional representatives from Public Safety, Residential Life Collegium, Environmental Health and Safety, College Health Services, Student Government, Facilities Management and the College Faculty. This committee meets on a monthly basis and reviews, among other topics, issues related to lighting, emergency phones, building access, hazardous materials use and disposal, lab safety, fire safety and occupations safety programs.
