Karin Muller, known internationally for her travel documentaries, will present her multi-media portrait of Japan Nov. 29 at Berea College

For 12 months Karin Muller traveled by herself from one end of Japan to the other, living among the people and exploring the country’s ancient cultural heritage and its modern ways.  The result, “Japanland:  A Journey into the Soul of Japan” provides a rare glimpse behind the external image, to see the true inner character of Japan.  Muller will present this multi-media documentary at Berea College Nov. 29.  The 3 p.m. program is scheduled in Phelps Stokes Auditorium.

A filmmaker, writer and photographer who lives in Raleigh, N.C., Muller is known internationally for her travel documentaries.   The author of the PBS series and book “Japanland:  A Year in Search of Wa;” ”Hitchhiking Vietnam: A Woman’s Solo Journey in an Elusive Land,” and  “Inca Road: A Woman’s Journey into an Ancient World,” has been experiencing life in several different places overseas for over 14 years.  Muller is an expert lecturer on Japan for the National Geographic Society and her writing appears in National Geographic and Traveler magazines.  She also has been featured on National Public Radio and on Minnesota Public Radio’s Marketplace.  She received her B.A. in Economics from Williams College in 1987. 

The program is sponsored by Berea College Convocations, the Francis and Louise Hutchins Center for International Education and Asian Studies and is free and open to the public
