Berea College’s Westervelt wood workshop program for
Fall 2007, sponsored by the Technology and Industrial Arts Department,
will begin on September 4th. Classes will meet on Tuesday
and Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There will be three
separate courses offered this fall. Instructor for the three
workshops will be Gary Mahoney.
To register please call Sandy Wells in Berea’s Technology
and Industrial Arts Department at 859-985-3033 between the hours
of 8:00a.m and 5:00 p.m. There is a $10 non-refundable registration
fee for each course. In addition students will be responsible
for any materials used.
September 4-27: Introduction to Wood Turning. This
course will cover the basics of spindle and faceplate turning. No
prior woodworking experience is needed. Example of projects
could include candle sticks, rolling pins, small bowls, etc.
October 2-30 : Bowl Turning. This course will cover
the tools and techniques used for turning wooden bowls. In
addition techniques for greenwood and laminated bowls will be covered.
November 6-December 4: Christmas Gifts. This course will
focus on producing small wooden items suitable for Christmas gifts.
Examples of projects could include cutting boards, jewelry boxes,
ornaments, wooden forks and spoons, etc.
