The renovated Holtkamp pipe organ at Berea College will be featured
in an organ recital on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 3 p.m. The concert will
be held in Gray Auditorium of Presser Music Building on the Berea
campus.
John Courter, Professor of Music and College Organist, will perform
music by composers from Germany, France and America.
The year 2007 marks an anniversary year for these composers: Dietrich
Buxtehude (300 years), Jean Langlais (100 years), and Gian-Carlo
Menotti (d. 2007). Other composers on the program are Johann Sebastian
Bach, Cesar Franck, Ernst Friedrich Richter, Samuel Barber and
John Courter; the latter two are represented by organ pieces based
on familiar hymn tunes.
The Holtkamp Organ Company of Cleveland, builders of the original
organ in 1970, enlarged and rescaled the organ for the renovated
Presser Music Building in 2003-04. All are invited to this free
concert to hear the impressive sounds of this addition to Berea’s
musical community.
