| The
Music Department of Berea College will join with the Campus Christian
Center in presenting the annual Christmas Concert on Sunday, December
3 at 7:30 p.m. in Union Church. At this free popular event, students,
faculty, staff and townspeople gather together to celebrate the
joy of the Christmas season in the beautiful, candlelit sanctuary
decorated with wreaths, banners and greens. The church is located
at the corner of Main and Prospect Streets in Berea. Beginning
at 7:15 p.m., "gathering music" for organ and brass will
be heard as people arrive.
Music of the season will be performed by the Concert Choir and
Chamber Singers, the Women’s Chorus, the Black Music Ensemble,
the Faculty-Staff Choir, the Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Ensemble,
the Brass Choir, the Saxophone Quartet, the Bluegrass Ensemble
and the Recorder Ensemble. Selections will include sacred settings
of “Ave Maria,” “Silent Night” in German, “Love
Came Down at Christmas” “O Holy Night” and
other traditional carols. Secular highlights will include “Carol
of the Bells,” Leroy Anderson’s “A Christmas
Festival” and “Sleigh Ride,” and Mel Torme’s “Christmas
Song” (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire).
All in attendance are invited to join in the singing of favorite
traditional carols accompanied by organ. Plan to attend this
joyful and popular community-wide Christmas celebration and the
reception afterwards sponsored by Berea's Campus Christian Center
in the church's Fellowship Hall.
