Service Convocation on April 27.
Her talk “Strengthening Community Partnerships” is scheduled
for 3 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel.
Sponsored by Berea’s Campus Christian Center and the Center
for Excellence in Learning Through Service, the program is free and

For more than two decades Cruz has advanced service-learning nationally
and internationally. She is former Lang…Professor of Social
Change at Swarthmore College, where she piloted service-learning

then director of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford
University. Under Cruz’ guidance, the Haas Center developed
model service programs that are replicated on other campuses. Along
with Berea College, the Haas Center has been recognized in U.S.
News and World Report’s most recent rankings as among the
top ten colleges and universities in the country for service learning.
Among her many awards and honors, Cruz received the 2005 Alec
