Berea College’s 4th annual Empty Bowls Hunger
Awareness Banquet is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12, beginning
at 5:30 p.m. in
the Woods-Penniman Building Commons on Berea’s campus.
The
idea of the Empty Bowls Project is simple. In exchange for $10,
you will be served a simple meal of soup and bread in a ceramic
bowl made by the Berea College Ceramic Apprenticeship Program and
local potters. You keep the bowl as a reminder of all the empty
bowls in the world. The event’s proceeds this year will go
to the Berea Community Food Bank, Friends of Paint Lick, and Crab
Orchard Family Resource Center.
Tickets can be purchased from 11am-1pm
and 5pm-7pm before Spring Break, from March 27-31, or after the
break, from April 10-12 in
the Alumni Building. Tickets reservations can also be made by
calling Danielle Capillo at 985-3733 any time. A few tickets may
also be
available at the door, but reservations are encouraged as seating
is limited.
This event is co-sponsored by CELTS and the Berea
College Ceramic Apprenticeship Program. Special thanks to potter
Teresa Cole
and to Tater Knob Pottery for their generous contributions
of bowls.
Soup donations will come from Berea and Richmond area restaurants.
Come out, get a beautiful bowl and contribute to the alleviation
of hunger in our area. Every time you see your empty bowl,
be encouraged to do something about hunger. You can make
a difference
by supporting
your local food bank.
