Sehested has traveled to Iraq, the West Bank, Nagaland, Chiapas,
Burma and other conflictual areas in the United States and around
the globe in his efforts on behalf of a more peaceful world. This
Thursday, March 16, the activist, author and founding director
of Baptist Peace Fellowship of North America will speak at Berea
College’s Phelps Stokes Chapel at 3 p.m.
Sehested’s talk “On the Far Side of Revenge: Just
Peace” is the annual Robbins Peace and Brotherhood Lecture
for 2005-06, sponsored by the Campus Christian Center. Admission
is free and open to the public.
Currently the pastor of Circle of Mercy in Asheville, N.C.,
Sehested served as director of Baptist Peace Fellowship of North
America for 18 years. In addition to traveling to areas of conflict,
he has participated in and co-led nonviolence training, peace
talks at the Carter Center, and conversations with Los Angeles
gang leaders.
A prolific speaker and writer, Sehested has written about race,
peace, reconciliation and Christianity and peacebuilding. Most
recently, he collaborated with Rabia Terri Harris, director of
Muslim Peace Fellowship, on the book “Peace Primer: Quotes
from Islamic and Christian Scripture and Tradition.”
