A
Kwanzaa celebration and feast is scheduled at Berea College Thursday,
Dec. 8. "Returning to the Motherland: Challenges and Triumphs
in Reconnecting to Africa" will begin at 6 p.m. in the Woods-Penniman
Building Commons. Guest speaker will be Dr. Eddie Glaude Jr.,
associate professor of religion and African and African American
Studies at Princeton University.
The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored jointly
by Berea College's Black Cultural Center, International Center,
African and African American Studies and Jublilee! programs.
Kwanzaa is a unique African American celebration with a focus
on the traditional African values of family, community reponsibility,
commerce and self-improvement. The celebration is neither political
nor religious and is not a substitute for Christmas or other
holidays.
