In wake of the current conditions around the globe, Berea College
will host a conference entitled, Engaging Our World: A Southeastern
Global Leadership Conference. Devoted Berea College students
and volunteers are organizing a conference that seeks to raise
the consciousness of students across the southeastern region
of the country. Through various workshops and plenary sessions,
the conference will address global issues such as trade and economic
justice, global AIDS, environmental justice, world peace, world
hunger and climate change. This conference will educate students
about global problems and offer ways in which they can be involved
in searching for solutions.
William Gyude Moore, one of the student
organizers hopes, “to empower conference
participants to creatively engage these problems and participate in the creation
of a better and safer world.” Engaging Our World will take place Friday,
October 21, 2005 through Sunday, October 23, 2005, and will be an opportunity
for students already engaged in this region to network and support each other.
Registration is now open to all who are interested. To register for the leadership
conference and for further information please visit the following website, www.engagingourworld.org.
A tentative schedule can be found here (word document).
