The Penny Loafers, an all-male quartet, will perform at Berea College
on Sept.11 at 3:00 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel. The Convocation event
is co-sponsored by the Campus Christian Center.
Blending a variety of musical styles, from 1950’s doo-wop to contemporary
gospel, the “Loafers” combine impressive vocals, original
material, new arrangements of traditional favorites, and a unique sound
that appeals to all ages.
The four-man ensemble formed in 1985 when four Berea College students
appeared in a campus talent show, singing an a cappella version of “Happy
Trails.” Members of the group came and went until the Loafers went
on the road full-time in1989. They have performed at various events and
venues across the country over the last fifteen years, including banquets,
conventions, universities, and churches. Although no longer on the road
full-time, the Penny Loafers continue to perform nationwide. All of the
group members currently serve churches in both pastoral and music ministry.
