| Dr.
Sumit Ganguly, South Asia scholar and director of the Indian Studies
Program at Indiana University, will speak on “India-U.S. Relations” at
Berea College March 17, at 3 p.m. in Phelps Stokes Chapel. The talk by
the 1977 Berea graduate will focus on historical relations between India
and the United States and its significance for the contemporary world.
The program is the 2004-05 Begley VanCleve Lecture and is co-sponsored
by the College’s International Center. Admission is free and
open to the public.
Ganguly holds the Rabindranath Tagore Chair in Indian Cultures and
Civilizations and is a professor of political science at Indiana, in
addition to directing the Indian Studies Program there. He is the author,
editor or co-editor of some ten books on South Asia.
Ganguly also is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations in New
York and the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London.
He has held fellowships at Columbia University, the Woodrow Wilson
International Center for Scholars and the Center for International
Security and Cooperation at Stanford University.
In addition to a bachelor’s degree from Berea, Ganguly holds
a masters Miami University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois
at Urbana/Champaign.
