Dr. John Lympany has joined Berea College as its first Chief Information
Officer. He began his new duties October 18.
As CIO, Lympany’s responsibilities include management and oversight
of Berea’s Information Systems and Services Department (IS&S)
and providing leadership to the College in determining how best to employ
technology for serving Berea’s increasingly complex academic, administrative
and communications needs.
Most recently, Lympany served as Executive Director for Information
Technology at St. Bonaventure University. He was formerly the Associate
V.P. for Information Technology at Spalding University in Louisville,
Ky., and held several positions in information technology during his
11 years at the University of North Carolina (U.N.C.) at Wilmington.
His educational background includes a B.S. in Accounting with an emphasis
in Management Information Systems from Pennsylvania State University,
a M.Ed. From U.N.C., Wilmington, in educational administration, and a
Ed.D. from Spalding University in Educational Leadership with a research
emphasis in Instructional Technology.
The new CIO position replaces the position of director of Information
Systems and Services, formerly held by Martin Ramsay, who left the College
in April. Ramsay is currently Chief Instructional Technologist for the
Appalachian College Association, based in Berea.
